Site of Orlando nightclub shooting to become memorial

Orlando's Pulse nightclub will soon become a permanent memorial and museum to honor the victims of the shooting on the site last June.

Orlando’s Pulse nightclub, the site of the deadliest mass shooting in American history last June, will soon become a permanent memorial and museum to honor the victims.

The announcement was made Thursday, May 4 at the site of the now-vacant nightclub.

Forty-nine people died and 53 others were injured in the June 12 shooting.

It isn’t easy for me to stand on this site. What began as a place for fun and joy is now a sacred ground.

Barbara Poma, Pulse nightclub owner

Funds for the project and a scholarship are being spearheaded by the One Pulse Foundation, which was also announced on Thursday.
