North Korea Fires Two Missiles Into the Sea

North Korea fired two missiles into the Sea of Japan early Thursday morning, South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported.

North Korea fired two missiles into the Sea of Japan early Thursday morning, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.

The short-range missiles were fired around 5:20 a.m. from the east coast city of Wonsan and flew about 500 km (300 miles), Yonhap said.

The claims come amid heightened tensions on the Korean peninsula over the North’s increased military activity. On Wednesday, state news agency KCNA published pictures of what it said was a miniature nuclear warhead, small enough to fit on a ballistic missile.

Last week the United Nations imposed tough sanctions after North Korea conducted its fourth nuclear test.
